The PEI Literacy Alliance is pleased to announce that it has established a free Book Bank at the Food Bank in Charlottetown. "PEI has some of the lowest literacy levels in the country," says Catherine O'Bryan, Executive Director of the PEI Literacy Alliance. "The number of books in your home has a direct relationship to how well you succeed in school." The Alliance has collected gently used children's books and installed them in a bookcase at the Food Bank. Children are invited to take a book home when they visit the Food Bank with their parents. "This is another way we can assist our clients with the help of the PEI Literacy Alliance," says Mike MacDonald general manager of the Upper Room Food Bank. If you have gently used children's books that you would like to donate please call 368-3620.
