Karolina Khryplyvets, originally from Ukraine, was at Charlottetown City Hall on Sunday to celebrate her roots during the 34th Ukrainian Independence Day flag-raising ceremony.

She said while it is difficult for her and her family to be far away from home, since moving here three years ago, she doesn't think being there would make much difference.

"We are originally from the village which is 13 kilometres from [the] Russian border, so for now, it's completely destroyed. Nothing's there," she said…
