Bobby Morrissey says program should be in place before fall harvesting season

A federal licence buyback program for Prince Edward Island's wild oyster harvesters is expected to be up and running by Sept. 1, according to Egmont MP Bobby Morrissey.

The program is part of a federal support package announced last month for an industry hit hard by the diseases MSX and dermo.

The federal government has committed up to $6 million for a one-time licence buyback program for wild oyster harvesters who choose to exit the industry.
