Feds Announce $23 Million in Park Upgrades



The federal government through Parks Canada has announced $23 million in upgrades for the P.E.I. National Park

Here's the list of projects:

Project name: Rehabilitation of Operational and Directional Signage

Estimated total: $427 K
Project description: The focus of this project is to update, replace and install operational and directional signage within PEI National Park. Additionally, a plan will be developed that will inform future needs and subsequent investments in signage.

Project name: Beaches Rehabilitation
Estimated total: $4.3 M
Project description: Rehabilitation of numerous beach complex facilities in PEI National Park, as well as the updating of interpretive signage and exhibits.

Project name: Rehabilitation of Park Entrances
Estimated total: $5.3 M
Project description: This project will rehabilitate the entrance gates in PEI National Park, offering a welcoming appeal for visitors.

Project name: Trails Rehabilitation
Estimated total: $2 M
Project description: This project will undertake extensive maintenance to trails, expand accessible areas for those with mobility needs, and rehabilitate the interpretative signs that inform and guide visitors.

Project name: Water and Wastewater Systems Assessment and Rehabilitation
Estimated total: $1.6 M
Project description: This project will update the water and waste water assessment for the PEI Field Unit and complete any necessary repairs.


Green Gables Heritage Place  
Green Gables Heritage Place is a part of L. M. Montgomery's Cavendish National Historic Site and served as inspiration for L.M. Montgomery’s classic novel Anne of Green Gables – the first of 23 novels. This late 19th century farm house belonged to the cousins of the author and was Anne’s fictional home.


Project name: Green Gables Rehabilitation
Estimated total: $9.5 M
Project description: This project will implement the Green Gables redevelopment plan which will include the rehabilitation of built assets such as the visitor centre, gift shop and food service area. It will also include strategic site layout improvements, recapitalization of interpretation and wayfinding signage.


Ardgowan National Historic Site
Ardgowan National Historic Site was once the home of William Henry Pope, one of the Fathers of Confederation from Prince Edward Island. It is an example of a picturesque rural cottage from the Victorian era, and the house and grounds have been restored to the period.  


Project name: Landscape Conservation Maintenance Plan
Estimated total: $304 K
Project description: This project will rehabilitate the grounds of the Ardgowan National Historic Site in the following key areas: restoration of species composition and layout of site vegetation, restoration of historic view planes, and rehabilitation of interpretation and wayfinding signage.
